The National Council of the Rachad Movement held its meeting in ordinary session on August 3, 2022. The Council discussed the current situation in Algeria, especially regarding the detainees and their families, as well as ways to support them legally and financially. The civilian façade of the army denies the very existence of prisoners of opinion, calling it the « lie of the century », even before a court has rendered a verdict on them.
The National Council reaffirmed the goal of the Rachad Movement, proclaimed in its Charter of April 18, 2007, namely radical political change by non-violent means involving all segments of Algerian society, in order to establish the rule of law and good governance, a civilian state exercising democratic control over the armed forces.
At the organizational level, and given the impossibility of gathering in congress in the current context, the National Council decided to renew the structures of the movement, including the secretariat, which now includes Messrs. Rachid Mesli, Nazim Taleb, Mahmoud Logbi, Younes Bahloul and Mourad Dhina as spokesman. The National Council has also adopted and launched programs of media and political action and intellectual reflection, contributing to the efforts for change.
